As parents, we want what is best for our children. We want them to be healthy, wholesome, and to grow up to be successful, well-rounded adults. But more than anything, as Christians we want them to know, experience and have a personal relationship with God.
Raising godly children can be challenging. It takes time, patience, and a whole lot of prayer. But it is so worth it!
When our children know God, they have hope and purpose. They can weather the storms of life because they know they are loved by a Heavenly Father who has good plans for them.
The Importance of Raising Godly Children
There are various ways we use to guide our children in knowing God. We teach them about God at home, pray with them and take them to church. But ultimately, the decision to follow God is up for them to decide.
As parents, we can only do our best to point our children to Jesus and lead by example. We must also trust that God will work in their hearts and draw them to Himself.
Key Tips for Raising Godly Children
It is becoming increasingly difficult to raise godly children in the modern day age. With the constant barrage of media and peer pressure, parents can quickly lose sight of what is truly important.
Here are two tips to help you raise godly children:
1. Teach your children about God
Teaching your child/children about God is crucial. It's important to help them to understand His love for them and His desire for them to live a godly life. Teach them how to read the Bible and pray to God.
Also, instill in them a desire to serve God and others.
In the Bible verses below, it’s clear that parents or guardians or the elderly are expected to teach children about God.
Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, especially concerning the day you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, when the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’ (Deuteronomy 4:9-10)
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
2. Be a Godly Example
Your children will learn much more from your actions than your words. It’s thus important that you be a godly example for them to follow.
Let them see you praying, reading the Bible, worshipping God, being loving, being kind, serving others, and more. Show them how to live a life that is pleasing to God.
If you follow these two tips, you will be well on your way to raising godly children who will honor and glorify God all their lives.
Benefits of Raising Godly Children
There are many benefits to raising godly children.
First, your child/children will have a strong foundation in their faith which will anchor them throughout their lives.
Second, they will be able to develop a close relationship with God, which will give them strength and guidance for life.
Third, they will be able to share their faith with others and be a witness to Christ. Finally, they become a blessing to you (their parent), family, and to all people in general.
What a blessing that is!
