For believers, faith in God changes everything. Yes, faith in God and His Word becomes a way of life that should impact every aspect of our lives and existence. For example, our faith influences our perspectives, our choices, how we treat others, and more.
This blog article explores several ways our faith impacts our everyday choices.
1. Showing Love
God calls us to love one another. So, faith in God guides us to love—love God, ourselves, and love one another.
In the Bible, Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus said
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’’
We are to love God with all our hearts and love others as we love ourselves. When faced with a choice between selfishness and love, our faith should guide us toward choosing love, kindness, and compassion, even when circumstances say we shouldn’t.
2. Forgiving others
In everyday life, faith in God calls us to forgive even as we have been forgiven by God. It is written in Matthew 6:14-15,
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive them.
Our faith in God calls us to forgive others.
By forgiving others, we release ourselves from the negative effects of unforgiveness, such as anger and bitterness.
3. Servanthood
Daily in our lives, faith calls us to follow the example of Jesus and serve others.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45)
Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant ( Matthew 20:26)
In everyday life, our faith calls us to follow the example of Jesus and serve others. Whether lending a hand to a neighbor, helping someone at the workplace, or volunteering in an event, serving others allows us to demonstrate our faith in action.
4. Choosing honesty
Our faith guides us to become more and more like God. That means faith in God should guide us to be honest, sincere, truthful, and full of integrity as we interact and deal with others daily.
5. Generosity
Faith also calls us to be generous with our gifts, talents, resources, and all God has given us. That way, we demonstrate our trust in God’s provision because we know that everything we have is God-given.
For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? (1 Corinthians 4:7)
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7)
6. Choosing Patience
In everyday life, patience is a key thing. It’s easy to see why patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Faith guides us to be patient at all times. Through patience, we grow in faith and in our character.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephes 4:2)
Patience brings understanding (See Proverbs 14:29).
Also, according to Bible, we inherit the promises of God through faith and patience,
….that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:12)
