Overcoming challenges

Life throws curveballs our way, and sometimes we face hard times. These difficulties can feel overwhelming. However, hardship is a universal human experience.

Also, during difficult moments, we discover our strength and resilience. Here are several things we can do to navigate the hard seasons of life.

1. Remember God’s Goodness

God's goodness is all-encompassing. It's a radiant characteristic of His very being. This good intention drives everything He does for believers. Like loving parents, God, our Heavenly Father, desires only good for us, even when life gets complicated.

The Bible says, ‘everything works for the good of those who love God’. (Romans 8:28)

The LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. (Psalms 84:11)

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth” (Exodus 34:6)

Reflecting on God's goodness fills us with faith that He, not our current struggles, holds the reins. This trust brings huge comfort during tough times.

2. Seek God’s Wisdom

Life's tough times can make it hard to focus on God. Our minds can easily be flooded by the difficulties we face.

Jesus's words in John 16:33, 'In this world, you will have trouble,' can prepare us for life's challenges.

The Bible offers a powerful solution—God's Wisdom (James 1:5). Wisdom, after all, is the key to navigating life's aspects.  Seek God through His Word for comfort and Wisdom. Scripture reminds us of God's love, faithfulness, and presence during trials.  Reading these verses can offer comfort and strengthen your belief in His promises. (e.g. Psalm 46:1, Isaiah 41:10).

By turning to God's perspective and Wisdom, we can gain insight and navigate difficult situations with renewed strength.

3. Focus on God’s Everlasting Love

Remember that God's love remains constant when life throws you into the fire and drags you through deep waters. It's a steady anchor in the stormiest times. Remember His promises are accurate and that He has a purpose for your life journey, even when things are tough. In God, you’ll find unwavering strength and unfailing love.

  • Hold onto these truths: He vows never to leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)
  • His Word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path (Psalm 119:105).
  • He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

So, find comfort in the Bible. It’s filled with verses that remind us of God's love, faithfulness, and presence during tests and trials.

4. Remember to Pray and Give Thanks

Prayer is a powerful tool, and the Bible, in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, reminds us to:

  • Rejoice always: Maintain a spirit of thanksgiving, even in challenging times.
  • Pray without ceasing: Commune with God throughout the season.
  • Give thanks in everything: Acknowledge the goodness of God in your life, big or small.

By incorporating these practices, we can find strength, peace, courage, confidence and even solutions within ourselves through our connection with God.
